Let’s Tryst Again - Crieff and Strathearn's
Drovers' Tryst - walking festival

Saturday 11th - Saturday 18th October 2008 The history of Scotland goes beyond bloody battles and castles. Away from the famous conflicts associated with Wallace, Bruce and Bonnie Prince Charlie, ordinary folk just got on with their lives. Crieff and Strathearn Drovers’ Tryst annually celebrates the life, work and play of the people who made Crieff the crossroads of Scotland in the 1700s. This innovative festival seeks to recreate the atmosphere of the droving days - without the inconvenience of 30,000 cattle!

Heading towards its 7th year, the festival has annually built on its previous success and popularity by offering an ever increasing range of activities for both adults and children. Choose to bag some local Munros or take a gentle ramble through the glens and feast your eyes on the dazzling autumn colours of the Perthshire landscape; learn new skills including Nordic walking and navigation, and develop existing ones in a new environment through photographic walks; enjoy a night at a ceilidh, a ghosts & ghouls walk in the dark or even a night at the local cinema club; shop at the local Country Market complete with historic re-enactments; and enjoy great food in the local restaurants and cafes.

‘Hairy Coo’, a fun, race-based mountain bike challenge for both juniors and adults will take place on the second Saturday and will cover many of the drove roads through some spectacular scenery, with the Comrie Croft Barn Dance to follow that evening.

Comments from 2007

‘Many thanks I had a great day !!!!’
Mike, Hairy Coo participant

‘We had 4 great days with lovely weather’
Hugh, walker

‘Just to say how much my husband and I enjoyed the photography walk with Keith Ratcliffe on Sunday. A great deal of thought and work had gone into it and his brilliant delivery was matched by the weather. I had an equally fascinating walk in Laggan Woods today led by Alan Dempster and accompanied by his back markers, a veritable mine of information and energy. Please convey my thanks and appreciation to all and best wishes for continued success.’ Lorna, walker

Comment from a previous year

‘We were originally going to walk the West Highland Way, but were put off when friends who had already done the trek and said that they felt that they didn't get to meet enough people on the walk because they were too busy hiking. What we wanted to do was to make our trip a hiking experience and meet the people of Scotland as well, so we did a Google search on the internet and found the Drovers’ Tryst in Perthshire. It seemed to us to be the perfect combination of walks and events - so we completely redesigned our holiday trip - and the experience has been well beyond expectations.'
Kristie & Drew, Wisconsin.
